About Us

In October 1995, 21 Citizens of Kolkata got together and formed a club which was named as ‘’Rotary Club of Calcutta Park Point.” Out of 21 Citizens, 3 were ex Rotarians namely K. D. Chawla, Lalit Kapoor & Arun Kr. Bharani who were from Rotary Club of Calcutta New Alipore. This newly formed club was sponsored by Rotary Club of Calcutta South East & Sitanshu Sil was the President of the Sponsored club. A. K. Bhalla, a senior Rotarian of the said club played a key role as Governor’s Special Representative (GSR) under the able guidance of District Governor Alok Kumar Mitra (now deceased). From the very beginning all the above 21 members started meeting at Dalhousie Institute Club at Ballygunge area and elected their first leader Arun Bharani, who became Charter President of the club. Club received its Charter from Rotary International through the then District Governor on 7th November 1995 & declared club no. 31079. As per Rotary International Guidelines and within the framework of its constitution, club started weekly meetings in the said venue & began to publish weekly bulletin namely ‘’SMILE”.

Thus, the journey of clubs towards SERVICE ABOVE SELF began and activities multiplied as the mantle of leadership passed down year after year, now celebrating 28th Year !

During this period, Club had undertaken a number of Projects, some of those are narrated as under, down the memory lane In 2007-08 we organised Nabadisha camps in collaboration with Calcutta Police to provide food and learning materials to the slum children and arranged polio drops vaccination to them. In 2018-19 our Clubs accounts were commenced to be audited for the first time. In 2019-20 our Club’s Trust was formed for the first time in 25 years of Club’s life. We started to do projects through the Trust. We opened a Skill Development Centre in an economically weaker community and provided ration to them during the lockdown of Covid period in May 2020. We also opened two Interact Clubs. In the memory of the late Past President Rajendra Dave, in 2008, PP Avishek Himatsingka started a Rolling Trophy in his memory which is presented to the Best Rotarian of the Year in the club on rotation. In the memory of the late RK Lahoti father of PP Surendra Lahoti, a best “Being Human” award was introduced in 2021, which is presented to the Rotarian in the club to the sponsor of the Best Project in that year.
